This shot of an Oceanic Whitetip Shark being photographed by Jim Abernethy, owner of M/V Shear Water, won The British Society of Underwater Photographers' Focus On Wide-Angle competition in June 2008.

It was taken at a depth of about 4 metres in deep open water near Cat Island in The Bahamas on 7th June 2007 while I was on a M/V Shear Water liveaboard trip.

I used my Nikon D200 digital SLR with a 12-24mm Nikkor lens at 12mm focal length on Aperture Priority at F5.6 and two Inon Z-240 strobes on low manual settings. ISO 100, shutter speed 1/90th, Exposure Compensation -0.3 step.
