This shot of an Oceanic Whitetip Shark won the 2009 BSoUP / DIVER (British Society of Underwater Photographers in association with DIVER Magazine) Advanced Oversea Prints Competition. The competition was held at the 2009 London International Dive Show with almost a thousand members of the public casting their votes.

My photograph was taken at a depth of about 5 metres in deep open water near Cat Island in The Bahamas on 7th June 2007 while I was on a M/V Shear Water liveaboard trip.

I used my Nikon D200 digital SLR with a 12-24mm Nikkor lens at 12mm focal length on Aperture Priority at F5.6 and two Inon Z-240 strobes on low manual settings. ISO 100, shutter speed 1/125th, Exposure Compensation -0.3 step.
