In September 2012 Mary and I travelled to the French Polynesian island of Moorea where we spent three nights at the Sofitel Moorea Ia Ora Beach Resort diving with Ia Ora Diving. Moorea is only 17 kilometres north-west of Tahiti or eight minutes by plane - I can say this with certainty as I timed the flight! The island is about 10 miles wide and was formed as a volcano about one and a half to two and a half million years ago.

Mary and I had one dive, in disappointing visibility, at Le Cardinale near Pointe Faaupo and I had a further two, both shark feeds, at Vaiare again near Pointe Faaupo. The second shark feed was the best of the three dives with some large Jacks, juvenile Blacktip Reef sharks and small Titan Triggerfish.
