The Maldives has a reputation as one of the best diving destinations in the world but the 1998 El Niño coral bleaching had discouraged Eve & I from visiting there. However our good friends Richard and Ann Preston persuaded us to book a
March 2002
two-week cruise there with them and we were very pleased that they did.
The diving was superb, I found that the level of damage to the coral varied enormously while the amount of reef fish had actually increased since El Niño and the cruise ship, MV Atoll Explorer, was excellent. Captain Fulhu and his crew ensured that everybody enjoyed a wonderful time. The EuroDivers onboard PADI dive centre was run by Mohamed Saeed and Abdulla Majdee who took us to many well known dive sites including Maaya Thila and Mushimasmigli otherwise known as Fish Head.
My only regret - leaving!
