July 2010

In July 2010 I returned to the Bahamas with Shear Water, again sailing out of West Palm Beach, Florida. Together with my BSoUP buddy Jarret Brown, I was on a Wetpixel trip led by Alex Mustard. The absence of Jim Abernethy certainly made for a much quieter boat this time!

The weather was disappointing and we had to contend with a moderate to heavy swell from the outset. With a nearby tropical storm, the underwater visibility deteriorated as the days slipped by, even dropping to 4 metres on one dive. But as is to be expected on a Shear Water trip, there was plenty of close shark action to savour with numerous Caribbean Reef, Lemon, Nurse and Tiger sharks encounters. And on the surface we enjoyed a magical snorkel with dolphins.
