In September 2008, fellow Ashford Dive Club member Rick Stewart and I dived a flooded limestone quarry near Womersley in Yorkshire. Known locally as Blue Lagoon because of its blue colour, its real name is Spring Lodge Lake. Underwater attractions included training platforms, two boat wrecks, a howitzer field gun and a sabre light tank. The maximum depth of Blue Lagoon is about 11 metres but most of the lake has a depth of around 5 to 7 metres.

Beginning our dive, my dive 1578, we dropped down onto a small boat called Kit B and then in 3 to 4 metres visibility, headed off in search of sturgeon, the lake containing two 1½ metre long diamondback sturgeon as well as barbel, roach, tench, starlets, chubb, carp and frogs, newts and toads. Unfortunately the fish life was nowhere to be seen. Rick did see a small roach less than 10 cms long but it dived for cover before Rick could get my attention. And that was it. So I photographed Rick instead and we completed this dive after 63 minutes.
