In May 2006 I returned to Selsey, this time diving with Chris Baker and Graeme “Spotty” Hastings. Once again I had checked on the local sea conditions with Ocean View Diving Services Ltd before making the trip.

The sea was flat calm and the visibility underwater 5 metres. We saw a shoal of pollock under the pier and beyond the pier, came across a pipefish, corkwing wrasse and various crabs.  After a while we saw a pair of cuttlefish and these proved to be the first of eleven that we saw.  We finned a fair distance from the shore in search of a drop-off but could not find it. With slack coming to an end we were forced to turn back.  Chris and Spotty surfaced to fin back to the shore with me following below and I was lucky enough to come across a Lesser Spotted Dogfish and shortly after that, had a brief glimpse of a Gurnard. The current was becoming pretty strong and I had to be quick about taking photographs of these two subjects, But I was pleased I did as my photograph of the Dogfish subsequently won best British Photograph at the British Underwater Image Festival 2007.
